Standard MDF is a high-quality engineered wood panel designed for internal, non-structural use in dry conditions. Manufactured from refined wood fibres bonded under heat and pressure, it offers a smooth, uniform surface with excellent consistency for machining and finishing.

Performance Characteristics

Standard MDF provides reliable performance for interior applications:

• Internal bond strength: up to 0.45 N/mm² (depending on thickness)
• Controlled swelling in thickness: between 11% and 16%
• Biological use class: Class 1 (dry internal environments)
• Consistent density for accurate cutting, routing, and fixing

Reaction to Fire

Reaction to fire performance is classified in accordance with EN 13986, subject to board thickness and installation method. Typical applications achieve D-s2,d0 (excluding flooring) when correctly installed, with flooring classifications of Dfl-s1 where applicable.

Recommended Uses

Standard MDF is best suited for dry internal environments, including:

• Furniture and cabinet manufacture
• Shelving and storage units
• Interior wall linings
• Skirting boards, architraves, and mouldings
• Shopfitting and display units
• Interior decorative joinery

This product is not suitable for humid or wet conditions.

Installation & Finishing Guidance

• For internal use only in dry conditions
• All exposed edges should be sealed before final finishing
• Boards should be acclimatised to site conditions prior to installation
• Use fixings, adhesives, and coatings suitable for MDF

Correct preparation and finishing will enhance appearance and long-term performance.
