Moisture Resistance & Durability
This MR MDF offers enhanced resistance to moisture-related movement:
- Reduced swelling in thickness, improving performance in humid interiors
- Improved internal bond strength, including after cyclic moisture testing
- Biological use classes: 1 & 2 (internal use)
Typical swelling in thickness ranges from 11% to 16%, depending on board thickness, demonstrating controlled performance in humid environments.
Fire Performance
Reaction to fire performance is classified in accordance with EN 13986, dependent on thickness and installation method:
- Typically achieves D-s2,d0 (excluding flooring) when correctly installed
- Flooring applications achieve Dfl-s1 at applicable thicknesses
Full fire classifications are detailed within the Declaration of Performance.
Recommended Uses
Moisture Resistant MDF is best suited for interior applications where humidity may be present, including:
- Kitchen units and carcasses
- Bathroom furniture and cabinetry (non-direct water exposure)
- Window boards and internal linings
- Built-in furniture
- Shelving and interior joinery
- Utility rooms and washrooms
This product is NOT suitable for external use or for structural applications.
Installation & Finishing Guidance (Important)
- MR MDF is designed for humid internal conditions only
- All exposed edges should be sealed with a suitable primer, paint, lacquer, or edge sealer prior to final installation
- Proper sealing improves durability and helps limit moisture ingress
- Boards should be acclimatised to site conditions before fixing
Correct installation and finishing are essential to achieving long-term performance.
